As a Digital Boss there’s one thing I know you’re great at: Dreaming Big! Also as a Digital Boss I know you have a lot on your plate! Our days are filled with making decisions about everything, literally every second of the day. Where should you spend your time? What should you post? What should you sell? Who should you connect with? What tools and technology should you use? The work never stops and there’s always something that needs to get done.
So if that’s the case, how does anything important ever actually get done? You know.. like hitting those big revenue goals, creating your next big offer, and growing your visibility. When there’s always so much to do it’s really hard to put your head down and get to work on what’s most important. After struggling with this myself for a year, I’ve finally nailed down 3 of the maybe unlikely to you, but most effective for me, ways I’ve been able to get things done faster, and actually hit my goals.
My 3 Step Process For Getting Things Done
As a Business Strategist I personally believe in having a plan for everything. So while having a plan is a huge part of getting things done it’s not what I’ll be talking about today because I’ve found it hasn’t been as important as the next three steps.
Support From Like Minded Biz Owners
Being a Digital Boss can definitely be lonely. If you’re anything like me you’re home alone, and in front of your computer for hours upon hours a day. When you’re working hard day in and day out on your next big thing, or on the day to day activities that keep your business moving forward it can be really easy to get caught in a fog. Sometimes you forget what you’re working for or toward, and being alone all the time definitely doesn’t help. You need to surround yourself with people (preferably other biz owners) who know you, know your vision, and who can remind you of your why!
Knowing that you’re not alone in this digital business journey really is so powerful. And by surrounding yourself with like-minded friends who can be there for you on a regular basis, you’ll have the support you need to keep your motivation high and continue to get work done. I meet with a group of biz besties every week for 1 hour so that we can touch base, get a break from being alone, and give each other the support and encouragement we all need to keep going!
Accountability To Keep You On Track
While support and encouragement are absolutely necessary when it comes to staying on track and having the motivation to keep moving forward, accountability is also incredibly important. When you’re your own boss, you don’t have anyone to answer to. If you don’t get things done, the only person you’re letting down is yourself. Knowing that can keep you from hitting your goals. To prevent that I recommend putting an accountability system in place so that you’re determined to get things done.
To do that I would again recommend reaching out to a like minded biz owner to become your accountability buddy. Set up an accountability system where you talk to this person once, or a few times a week, either by phone or text and every week let them know what you want to get done. Then throughout the week tell them how you are making progress on it. With this system you’re required to touch base with someone and expected to show proof of your action. Let’s be honest no one wants to show up to a meeting with nothing in hand. So because of this you’ll be motivated to get things done!
Outside Feedback For When You Get Stuck
I don’t know about you, but when I “hit a wall” and get confused about a project I’m working on I used to get stuck for days. I would keep going back and forth on all the possibilities, all the pros and cons, and it would just keep me in circles. Until I found real business owner friends who I could text at any time and ask for their opinion which almost always immediately solves the problem!
We can waste so much time trying to make a decision because we’re wrapped in our own thoughts, and since we spend most of our time alone it’s not as easy as walking over to your co-workers desk to ask. Until you get the right people around you. People who know you, know your business, and can help you clear your mind, and give valuable feedback on what’s best for you and your biz.
The Simple Answer To Accomplishing Your Biz Goals
So if you hadn’t realized it yet, the theme of this post has been to: SURROUND YOURSELF WITH SMART BIZ OWNERS. Surrounding myself with other smart business owners has been key in getting things dones, hitting my goals, and moving my business forward. I wasn’t able to start seeing real progress in my business until I put together a group of smart biz lady friends, and set up a system where we meet every single week for 1 hour to talk.
Putting together a group of people who get together to offer support, feedback, and new ideas, that will help you progress from where you currently are can also be referred to in the biz world as a “mastermind group”. Look out for the next post for more on what a “Mastermind Group” is!
