Conferences are a great way to meet new friends in person and connect with online friends offline. Last weekend I went to my first conference (The Creative At Heart Conference) and it was amazing! I did some things to prepare that I feel really made my experience the best it could be. So I wanted to share them with you so you can have the best experience at your next conference. Plus I will be sharing my Creative At Heart Experience.
You shouldn’t go into a conference blind or just winging it. Even if it is casual I believe that you should prepare to get the most out of your time. After all you are paying to be there so you want to have the best time possible. So many great things can come from a conference. New friends, new knowledge, new opportunities. So go in with an open mind and heart!
My time at the Creative At Heart Conference was literally one of the best weekend’s of my life. As an online entrepreneur it is really easy to feel alone and like no one in your immediate friends or family understand you and the struggles of being an entrepreneur. But being at a conference full of creative entrepreneurs EVERYONE understood each other. We all understood each others day to day struggles and could relate. That was literally one of the best feelings. To finally speak to people who GET IT.
Because of the community Creative At Heart has already built you went into the conference knowing without question that every single person there was there to support you. You could be your weird vulnerable self and no one would judge, they would probably just love you more because of it! The content was AMAZING. The speakers did a great job of teaching us new strategies to take our businesses to the next level.
If you are looking for a conference for female entrepreneurs who believe in #communityovercompetition and are there to support and encourage you then I can’t recommend the Creative At Heart Conference enough. If all works out I will be going to the next one and I want to keep going back every single time!
In this video I share 5 tips on how to prepare for a conference and talk more about my Creative At Heart experience. After the video let me know how you prepare when you are meeting a lot of new people, in the comments below!

This is fantastic
Thanks so much Sarah 🙂 I seriously had the best weekend there with you all!
This post is so awesome!!
Thanks so much Krista!
Still have to work on my SEO skills, but thanks to you I am getting there!
Wow! Excellent list of what to do to prepare. You’re so right on in saying to remember that everyone is there wanting to make connections and build relationships. And to chill out! Yes! I think I’ll even apply these suggestions to events I’m invited to speak at. Thanks for the great list!
The other thing I do is bring healthy snacks! No blood sugar crashes 🙂 you gotta eat to keep up the brain focus and energy. Plus you don’t want to get all “hangry” with people, right? 😉 Here’s my list of snacks to pack before a conference. http://www.savoringjoy.com/brainfood-what-every-traveler-should-bring-with-them/
Thanks so much LeeAnn!
And YES! I definitely had to keep snacking at the conference so that is so true!
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment and share your thoughts 🙂
You’re welcome! I really appreciated this video and definitely tucking the suggestions away for when the next time comes that I’ll need them!
Love. Love. Love everything about this post! I was looking into that particular conference and it is on my To Attend List. Thank you so much for the tips! Excellent post!
Thanks Lisa!
And it was such a great conference I really had the best time!
So many new friends and such great content!
Tickets go on sale this Monday the 20th for the next one which will be in November!
I’ve been going to one or two conferences a year and this is all great advice. I think a really important thing to remember is to stay in touch and continue to build relationships outside of the conference. I’ve had some great opportunities come up because I stayed connected with my conference friends over the years.
Yes that is wonderful advice Ashley! Now that it has been a little over year since attending Creative At Heart I can really see how those relationships I formed there and continued to build after have helped me grow so much in such a short time! What conferences have you been to?!
I’ve been attending Inspire Smart Success for three years and am excited to join the speaker lineup this year. I usually attend one or two smaller niche conferences a year, too! I’m always up for suggestions and it seems like Creative at Heart is a very popular choice!
