3 Effective Ways To Promote Your Old Content

Creating great content is hard work!  I don’t think a lot of us give ourselves enough credit for all the work we put into our content.  We put all of this work into creating something of high quality and then after a day, a week, or less we never bring it up again.  Uh what?!  Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy!  If you are putting out great content you should continue promoting it for as long as you are in business.  If 10 people thought it was awesome what’s to say 1,000 people won’t think it’s awesome if only they saw it.  In this video I give you some ideas on continuously promoting your old content without adding too much to your to do list.  Maybe even taking a break since you have awesome past content to rely on!

Great tips! I am often posting old content as in my line of work I don’t get a lot of repeat business. Information needs to be repeated to a new set of eyes every year.

Ah that is a really great observation Shanna! So glad that you are taking advantage of this because that same old content can still be so useful to so many people! Thanks so much for sharing that!

Great tips! I’ve been a lifestyle blogger for around 3 years now, so repurposing and sharing old content is a must.

I love this video! I’m a big fan of promoting old content and reusing it to inspire new types of content. I’ll write a blog posts, then create a slideshow based on the article, then maybe an infographic or a few social media posts. Pinterest is an awesome network to promote old posts over and over again. Great video Nevica! Thanks!

Yay! Do it! It is awesome! Especially for your organization content! Are you from NYC? I remember seeing you at a Hatch event in Brooklyn once! Your work was a part of a giveaway!

It totally is! If it’s not scheduled it’s not real! I’m a big believer in scheduling e v e r y t h i n g! Do you already use any of these ways to promote your old content?

Thanks Laurel! Do you use any of these tips to promote your old content?

  9. Lauren says

Fear of annoying people is the biggest thing holding me back, but just in the last week or two, I’ve mentioned content to people I thought were regular followers and they told me they hadn’t noticed or hadn’t seen it! So I guess my fear is just a fear. This is going to be a big key for me moving forward, I think!

    • Nevica Vazquez says

      January 12, 2016 at 10:41 am

Sorry for the late response Lauren! But thank you SO much for sharing this! This is exactly what I am talking about and such a key point! Everyone is busy! You can’t expect even your best followers to see all the work you put out! So re-sharing past content is useful for everyone!

    Thank you for the tips!

Like Lauren, I’ve been so afraid that I might annoy people, so I don’t share old posts unless someone specifically asks a question that I already answered in a previous post.

I do have related posts on my blog, and also archives based on categories (with small thumbnails so it’s easier to browse through the posts), so I suppose those help a bit. But as to sharing old posts on social media, I still haven’t tried that.

    • Nevica Vazquez says

      January 12, 2016 at 10:39 am

Thanks for sharing this with me Patricia! I completely understand why you feel that way. But I’d love for you to look at this from a different perspective.

Let’s say it’s a post on one of your featured projects. I am one of your readers and your ideal client. I see that post and think wow that project was beautiful, I need to remember her for when I go through a rebrand. Time passes, it’s time for my rebrand and I forget about you and that project because I’m busy and never saved it or saved it and can’t find it. You reposting it 3 months later will remind me about it! I’ll see it and remember and be glad you posted it again.

Another way to look at it: You are growing everyday, you are gaining new followers, subcribers, and readers. Someone who joins you today probably won’t go back to the amazing post from last year that helped 50 people. This new person deserves to be helped to don’t they? And the people who saw it already won’t mind/remember/or will be glad you brought it back up so they can make sure they are still doing it!

You can make this less of a struggle by setting it and forgetting it. If you plan out your social media content into a scheduler then schedule it to send out 1 old post every 2 weeks or so. Less content for you to create and more great content for your new and old readers to see!

LOVE this! I’ve really struggled with the amount of time I spend on each post with maybe a 10 minute value of readership. I’m going to start trying this out!

    • Nevica Vazquez says

      January 12, 2016 at 10:31 am

Oh Krista, I am so happy to hear that! For you this is essential! Your work is telling and sharing stories! Those stories need to continue to be spread so that they can continue to make an impact!

Great, great advice!! I really need to start doing this more!

      January 12, 2016 at 10:29 am

Thanks so much Jenni! You totally should I know for you it would be great because your readers may have wanted to try one of your recipes but forgot. So they will be so happy you reminded them to give it a try!
